PLA Navy Visits Tunisia

The 27th Chinese naval escort taskforce consisting of the guided-missile destroyer Haikou (Hull 171), the guided-missile frigate Yueyang (Hull 575) and the comprehensive supply ship Qinghaihu (Hull 885) arrived at the Port of La Goulette on Jan. 16, local time, for a 5-day friendly visit to Tunisia.

A welcoming ceremony held at the Port saw hundreds of people including representatives of the Tunisian armed forces, Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Bian Yanhua, Chinese military attaché Wang Weigang, and local overseas Chinese and Chinese students in Tunisia.

The visiting Chinese naval escort taskforce opened its vessels for public visit during the welcome ceremony.

The commanding officers of the Chinese naval taskforce will, during the 5-day visit, call on the Tunisian Navy chief of staff Rear Admiral (UH) Abderraouf Atallah and local government leaders, and pay an official visit to the Tunisian Naval Academy.

The sailors of the two navies will also carry out activities such as friendly sports matches and military exchanges. In addition, Chinese naval vessels will host deck receptions and invite cadets and teachers of the Tunisian Naval Academy for visit.

It is reported that this is the second time for the Chinese naval fleets to visit Tunisia.
