A second Spartan airplane landed at the airport in the kitchen

The second C-27J Spartan airplane landed at the airport in the kitchen today. The air forces of the Slovak Armed Forces have already two transport aircraft of this type. The official technical transfer of the new aircraft to the General Rail MR Štefánik Kuchyňa will take place in the coming days.

"I am very glad that today, the acquisition of Spartan transport aircraft has reached a successful end. Our armed forces are once again fully technically equipped to fulfill larger-scale transport tasks, which means that we can gradually secure the transport of soldiers and material in our direction. Of course, these aircraft will also be ready to carry out the tasks of domestic and international crisis management, "said Defense Minister Peter Gajdoš. At the same time, he added that the first C-27J Spartan airliner, which has been available to the Slovak Air Force OS since the end of last year, is already performing its tasks related to the transport of equipment and supplies to Slovak professional soldiers operating in the peacekeeping operation in Cyprus.

According to the Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces General Milan Maxim, the training of the Spartan crews will continue so that they will be able to use all the capabilities at the latest in September this year. "In the case of the first aircraft, crews are already trained and prepared. It remains for them to fly for about eight hours for some special matters, " explained General Maxim.

General Secretary of the Office of the Ministry of Justice Ján Hoľko stressed that the modernization of the armed forces will continue in the sense of the Long-term Plan. "The public has the opportunity to get acquainted with it, with investments up to € 30 billion scheduled for 2030," he said.

The acquisition of two C-27J Spartan carriers began in 2008, when the supplier was selected as a public tender. However, the delivery contract was only signed in 2014. The contract also includes five-year logistics support. The Slovak armed forces purchase the Spartan aircraft and retain the capability of transporting air, and they can arrange the air transport again in their own direction over the years.
